Ok so this is a mini rant. I've had it up to my eyebrows with excuses
and reasons why people aren’t interested in breaking new ground or at least be
ambitious enough to make their lives count. First things first; don't give up
on your dream! Don't do it! The only reason you should give up on it is if you
are certain that it’s not your dream or it’s a dream you formulated in your
mind because you just wanted to prove a point or show people you
could do it. That's not what I am taking about. I am referring to the vision in
your mind’s eye that won’t leave you alone and when you think back to it, you
come alive and you just know this is what you were created to do. Believe it or
not a dream has been planted in the heart of each and every one of us and it is
our responsibility to protect it and keep it alive. From all I have seen,
heard and experienced, these are a 5 ways to be double sure that your dreams
don’t die in a hurry:
1. Write
it down. If you want to get rid of your dream, be sure to keep in floating
around in your head for as long as you can. That way you can talk yourself into
pushing it further and further away into the deepest recesses of your mind
until you convince yourself that it was never a dream but the delusions of a
child. Then you can be sure that your dream will die a natural death. The first
step to killing your dream; don’t write it down.
2. Stop
spewing it out to all and sundry. I thought I was doing the world a favour by
sharing all my deepest ideas and concepts. That was until I got laughed at and
almost even spat at for daring to think such ‘stupid’ thoughts. Don’t get me
wrong a dream or purpose for your life is hardly ever you-centred. If it is,
then you need to start auditing the source of that dream because it was most
definitely not the Creator’s idea. Being that it’s something that would usually
make the world a better place you would be more than happy to share it with the
first person you see. The problem with that is the person might not quite be
mentally prepared to hear it. Why? Maybe they are mediocre in their thoughts
and have no interest in stretching their minds; maybe they have more ‘important’
things to think about like a nagging wife, a screaming boss or a mother asking
for a grandchild. Or maybe they just don’t understand why you want to cultivate
corn in a plantation when you studied dental surgery. Go figure. If you want
your dream dead in a flash, just speak to one or two average thinkers before
you have had time to put up your heart armour and prepare to be pulverised!

3. Understand
that not everyone will understand it. Ok so here’s the thing. They can’t
understand it even if they tried. They can appreciate it, and even support it
but don’t be too bothered if they don’t understand it. If they understood it,
they would have done it already. The reason why a lot of us never pursue our
dreams is because we have allowed others decide how ‘worthy’ the dream was as a
dream, that is an insult to your being and the Creator who put it there. Stop
asking for permission to follow your dreams from people who aren’t qualified to
give it to you. If at all you should be asking anyone or seeking any sort of
permission to proceed, it is from God, not your childhood friend.
4. Don’t
assume that everyone you meet and know wants you to succeed beyond your wildest
imagination. If you are above 18 and you believe that, I’ll eat my head! Evil
exists in different forms and the most deadly are those that aren’t necessarily
the most obvious especially those that mess with your mind a.k.a the dream
killers. That people generally smile and say hello doesn’t mean they will
understand your vision and help you actualise it. That is why you need to
search out your mentors, advisers and people of like vision to work with. It
takes a lot of patience, spiritual direction and wisdom. If you are not
learning something you are losing something; if you aren’t going forward you
are moving backwards. Life is dynamic and there is no such thing as limbo so
you need to decide which camp you belong in. Those who are moving forward, or
those who will be left behind; you can’t be in both.

5. Just do
it. You and only you know when it’s time to go all out. You don’t need to know
how many steps there are to get you up the flight of stairs, you just need to
make the first move. It’s all about the first step, a lot of faith and a lot
more guts. Achieving goals and dreams is not for the fainthearted because like
I said that you have a bright idea doesn’t mean the world will welcome it with
open arms. If it was that easy we wouldn’t be having this conversation in the
first place. Prepare to be looked at as half mad, delusional or plain stupid.
It comes with the territory. Don’t believe me; ask Bill Gates, Oprah, and
Barack Obama. As long as it was given to you, you already have the resources
and the people around you to make it happen. God doesn’t work with half
measures. Move into action and just trust that when you’ve done all you can, He
will do the rest. Stop apologising for how wonderful your dream is, that's the
point!!....Just do it!
